8 Ways I Stay Lighthearted
1. Stay Passionate and Enthusiastic
Passion and enthusiasm are central to how I approach both my life and my coaching practice. I find that my energy and excitement are contagious, often inspiring others to embrace their own passions and goals with a similar fervor. For instance, when I dive into a new project or explore a creative idea, my enthusiasm helps me overcome obstacles and fuels my drive to achieve and grow.
However, maintaining this high level of enthusiasm can be challenging, especially when I encounter people who may not share the same energy or positivity. It’s possible for their lack of enthusiasm to impact my own mood and energy. To combat this, I set clear intentions before engaging with others, consciously preparing myself to uphold my passion and enthusiasm. I go into each situation with a mindset focused on maintaining my own joy and positivity.
One key strategy is staying grounded in my enthusiasm. I remind myself of why I am passionate about what I do and the positive impact it has on my life and others. I recognize that I might be challenged or “knocked off” by external negativity, but being aware of this potential helps me stay anchored in my joy and enthusiasm. This awareness allows me to navigate through interactions while keeping my energy intact.
To encourage others to find and embrace their passions, I share my own experiences and celebrate their interests with genuine excitement. I believe that when you stay enthusiastic and grounded, you not only uplift yourself but also inspire those around you to connect with their own passions and maintain a positive outlook.
2. Practice a Playful Attitude
Playfulness is at the core of my natural state of being. It helps me stay lighthearted and connected to joy, making it essential in my daily life and coaching. Playfulness acts as a natural antidote to stress, worry, and negativity. When I focus on the fun and playful aspects of life, I’m able to move away from complaining, criticizing, or being overly serious.
For example, the buzz around Deadpool 3 and the intriguing idea of Robert Downey Jr. playing Dr. Doom are perfect illustrations of how playfulness can enhance conversations. Sharing exciting updates about these topics helps shift focus away from negativity and into a realm of anticipation and amusement.
In both personal and work environments, I actively incorporate playful ideas and activities. I might suggest performing an impromptu dance or act out a humorous scenario to lighten the mood and encourage creativity and joy.
By bringing playfulness into everyday situations, I help create a positive and less judgmental environment. This approach encourages everyone to embrace their own sense of fun and enjoy the moment, making work and social interactions more enjoyable.
3. Use Affirmations to Boost Positivity
Affirmations are a powerful tool I use to maintain a positive mindset and elevate my energy levels. They help me stay focused on my strengths and maintain a high state of enthusiasm, especially when engaging in important activities like coaching calls or networking.
For instance, I use affirmations such as “I am a treasure,” “I am in high demand,” and “I am the best coach in the world.” These positive statements are designed to put me in the perfect mental space for success. When I start a coaching call or meet with a prospective client, these affirmations help me feel confident and energized, ensuring that I bring my best self to every interaction.
The key benefit of using these affirmations is that they prevent me from dwelling on negative thoughts or doubts. Instead of ruminating on limiting beliefs like “I’m not a good coach” or “It’s hard to get people to sign up,” I focus on affirmations that reinforce my value and capabilities. This positive reinforcement keeps my mindset aligned with success and helps me overcome any challenges with a confident attitude.
Incorporating affirmations into my daily routine involves repeating them regularly and reflecting on their meaning. This practice not only helps me start the day on a positive note but also keeps me grounded in a high-energy state throughout various interactions. By consistently using affirmations, I’m able to maintain a positive outlook and stay motivated, regardless of external circumstances.
4. Focus on Positive Intentions
Maintaining a positive outlook by assuming good intentions from others is a key strategy I use to stay lighthearted and optimistic. In daily interactions, especially when dealing with text messages or emails, it’s easy to misinterpret tone because we can’t hear the sender’s voice or see their body language.
For example, when a client shares an email they received, I help them analyze it line by line, often revealing that the message is much more positive than they initially thought. By assuming a positive tone and generous interpretation, we can shift from seeing potential criticism or negativity to recognizing supportive and encouraging communication.
This approach not only helps in reading text messages more optimistically but also transforms how clients perceive and react to feedback. Often, clients are relieved and surprised to see how their initial assumptions of negativity were unfounded. By reframing these communications as positive, we open up space for more constructive and uplifting interactions.
The strategy involves going into each situation with the mindset that there is good news or a positive intention behind the message. This shift in perspective can make a significant difference in how we interpret and respond to various interactions, fostering a more positive and less stressful environment.
5. Cultivate an Abundance Mindset
Practicing an abundance mindset is essential for maintaining a positive and proactive approach to life. When I focus on scarcity, I can easily fall into a state of depression and inaction, believing that opportunities are limited or that efforts are pointless. This mindset can be paralyzing and prevent me from taking the necessary steps to achieve my goals.
Instead, I choose to focus on the abundance of opportunities available. Whether it’s potential clients, romantic partners, or career prospects, I remind myself that there is a wealth of possibilities out there. This perspective helps me feel more relaxed and motivated to take inspired action. For instance, viewing the situation through the lens of my mentor, who embodies an abundance mindset, helps me see that it’s possible to adopt the same outlook.
The abundance mindset is always there and can be tapped into at any time. It’s a matter of shifting my focus to recognize the endless opportunities and resources available. This shift in perspective feels much better and more empowering, serving as a clue to adjust my thinking whenever I catch myself slipping into scarcity mode. By continually reinforcing the belief that there is plenty of everything—clients, partners, opportunities—I stay motivated and ready to act.
6. Unseat Your Mental Gremlins
Unseating your mental gremlins is crucial for shifting from self-doubt to a mindset of possibility. Picture your inner gremlin, sitting in the backseat of the car, tossing and turning in frustration. It moans, “I don’t know how to do this,” or “I’m too lazy to try.” This small gremlin tries to make you believe that your challenges are too big, creating a cycle where you avoid tasks and feel stuck.
Meanwhile, your inner angel of ease takes the driver’s seat, offering a more uplifting perspective. Instead of letting the gremlin’s complaints take over, listen to the angel’s encouraging thoughts: “I can figure this out,” or “I’m getting better with practice.” This angelic perspective helps you approach tasks with a sense of ease and optimism, viewing obstacles as challenges rather than insurmountable problems.
The gremlin might insist, “This is too difficult,” with a display of exaggerated drama, but your angel of ease invites you into Easy World, where things are manageable and setbacks are simply part of the journey. By focusing on the angel’s positive messages and practicing a playful attitude, you shift from the gremlin’s gloomy self-prophesies to a more empowered, hopeful outlook.
So, when the gremlin starts to whine and complain from its little spot in the backseat, remember to embrace the angel’s voice. Move towards Easy World, where challenges are handled with ease and every step forward is a victory. The gremlin may keep its antics going, but you have the power to choose the angel’s encouraging perspective.
7. Prioritize Humor
Humor and comedy are integral to my approach to life, serving as essential tools for maintaining a light-hearted and joyful perspective. By actively seeking out and immersing myself in various forms of comedy—such as sitcoms, stand-up, and improv—I create a positive environment that encourages laughter and connection.
For instance, I regularly watch episodes of Friends during breaks, which not only helps me relax but also offers a refreshing escape from daily stresses. This ritual allows me to recharge my mood and return to tasks with renewed energy and a lighter outlook. The show’s clever writing, relatable characters, and humorous scenarios provide a constant reminder of the joy that laughter can bring.
In addition to enjoying comedy, I also delve into analyzing its mechanics. Understanding how jokes are structured, what makes a punchline effective, and the artistry behind comedic timing enhances my appreciation for humor. This analytical approach helps me recognize and celebrate the subtleties of comedy, enriching my own sense of fun and creativity.
My engagement with comedy extends beyond passive consumption. I incorporate humor into my daily interactions, whether through playful banter, light-hearted storytelling, or sharing amusing anecdotes. This active participation in humor not only brightens my own day but also fosters a positive and engaging atmosphere for those around me.
Encouraging others to embrace their own sense of humor is a vital part of my approach. By sharing funny moments, celebrating comedic successes, and creating opportunities for laughter, I help people feel more comfortable and open. This playful environment nurtures creativity, reduces stress, and strengthens connections, making interactions more enjoyable and fulfilling.
Ultimately, prioritizing humor and comedy helps me maintain a balanced and optimistic outlook. It acts as a counterbalance to life’s challenges, providing a source of joy and resilience. Embracing humor allows me to navigate difficulties with a lighter heart, fostering an atmosphere where everyone can enjoy the moment and approach life’s ups and downs with a sense of fun and ease.
8. Adopt a Childlike Mindset
Adopting a childlike mindset is a powerful way to stay curious, creative, and joyful. By embracing this perspective, I tap into a sense of wonder and enthusiasm that keeps my life vibrant and engaging. Much like the carefree and imaginative nature of childhood, this mindset encourages me to explore new ideas, playfully experiment, and approach challenges with a fresh outlook.
A childlike mindset helps me remain open to new experiences and perspectives. It allows me to approach problems with creativity and resilience, much like a child who views obstacles as opportunities for fun and learning. For example, engaging in spontaneous activities or exploring new interests with a sense of adventure helps me stay connected to my playful side and keeps life exciting.
By cultivating a childlike perspective, I also enhance my ability to connect with others on a deeper level. This mindset fosters empathy, curiosity, and a genuine interest in the experiences of those around me. It encourages me to approach interactions with openness and a willingness to explore different viewpoints, enriching my relationships and creating a more inclusive and supportive environment.
Maintaining this childlike approach involves regularly setting aside time for activities that spark joy and creativity. Whether it’s indulging in a favorite hobby, engaging in playful interactions, or simply embracing moments of wonder, this mindset keeps me grounded in positivity and enthusiasm. By prioritizing a childlike outlook, I continue to experience life with the same sense of wonder and excitement that makes each day unique and fulfilling.
9. Welcome Your Quirks
My quirks are a big part of what keeps my life entertaining and unpredictable. I have ADHD, which means I rip up napkins, destroy paper clips, and constantly fidget with a crystal—usually one borrowed from my mom. I talk a lot, shake my foot, and tend to put off doing laundry until the last minute. And, yes, I’m often found hugging people and shaking hands because I love touch, especially when it involves soft things.
When it comes to my fascination with fantasy football and baseball, my obsession is on another level. I stay up late into the night, pouring over player stats and descriptions like a true guru—even though my expertise is more about fantasy and less about football. I draft players based on their names alone and am convinced I’m a fantasy football aficionado, even if I don’t know as much about football as the real experts. I’m always searching for secrets to win on Sundays, treating every draft like a high-stakes game.
One of my quirks involves a bit of physicality and wildness—kind of like a playful dog. I unleash this energy in my acting and improv sessions, running around, getting on the ground, and acting like animals. I’m often surprised when people show me the napkin I shredded; it’s as if I don’t remember doing it!
These quirks and my playfulness are integral to who I am. They keep life interesting and help me stay connected to joy and creativity. By embracing these unique traits, I ensure that I live a life full of spontaneity, humor, and genuine enjoyment.
